Electra House heritage restoration

Synopsis:
The problem

The building had sat empty for an extended period, was neglected and in need of repair. Cornices were broken and original plaster and render was cracked or missing.

The solution

Old render was removed, cracks repaired, rerendered and plastered, new cornices were installed. The ornate plaster mouldings were restored or replaced. Outside render and brickwork was repointed and restored.

The result

This beautiful building now houses a thriving, contemporary hotel with one of Adelaide’s finest restaurants featuring modern Asian cuisine, facilities for corporate gatherings and functions and a bar.

Project details:
The project scope

The building was cleared, render was removed and cracks were repaired. The walls were re-rendered and plastered using lime based plaster. Cornices and moulds were repaired or replaced with the original style and matched perfectly to create a seamless finish. Brickwork in the basement and externally was repointed and restored leaving it exposed and sealed for a more modern industrial look. The external windows and doors were framed with render banding, completing the look.
